The skillset Nirmala utilizes to run events and coordinate projects is thanks to her diverse academic background and community involvement. Nirmala has attended the University of Toronto, York University and Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson). She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Arts in Anthropology and is currently completing a ‘Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Management Certificate.
When she is not on philanthropic trips, Nirmala works as an elementary school teacher in the Toronto District School Board. In addition to co-founding Green Dupatta, Nirmala was the 2015 Miss West Indian Canadian Queen, the 2016 Canadian Representative for the Divali Nagar Queen Show in Trinidad and Tobago and the 2021 Guyana Ambassador for Miss Face of Humanity 2021/2022.
In March of 2018 Nicole graciously committed to up-keeping the Green Dupatta website. She recently has taken on the role as a board member and continues to grow alongside the Green Dupatta family. Nicole recently graduated with honours as a Child and Youth Worker from Centennial College. She is also a graduated indian-classical dancer and a member of Iconic Dance Studio, which often volunteers performances at Green Dupatta fundraising events.
Chandeni uses her background as a licensed paralegal and Notary Public to conduct research for our online platforms and philanthropic projects. Chandeni’s ability to efficiently organize, create and schedule online campaigns is an integral piece of the GD Team! Chandeni is not only precise and organized, but she is creative as well! Outside of Green Dupatta, Chandeni was a professional Kathak dancer for 13 years and a Bollywood dancer for 15 years!
Being an Ontario Certified Teacher with both a Bachelor of Education and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English studies, Alexsis expertly uses her skills to oversee and manage our organization's online campaigns. Using the interpersonal skills she has built throughout her past volunteer work, Alexsis guides and trains team members in best communication practices with Green Dupatta’s collaborators, donors and volunteers to help build strong community relations.
After years of supporting our organization's events, galas and fundraisers, in 2021 Avinash decided to join Green Dupatta as the fundraising developer. In the past, Avinash has volunteered with Green Dupatta on numerous occasions and has watched the organization grow. When he is not planning, or being the life of, the party–Avinash works as a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Toromont CAT.
As Green Dupatta’s Social Media Coordinator, Crystal plans and conceptualizes campaign posts for our social media platforms. She expertly collaborates with the rest of GD’s social media team to create interesting and interactive content for our following. Outside of the organization, Crystal is a Child and Youth worker (CYC) at Kinark Child and Family Services. She obtained her Child and Youth Worker Diploma from Sheridan College!
Sanya is Green Dupatta’s youngest member! In late October 2021, Sanya undertook the position of Administrative Assistant. She expertly uses her organizational skills to collaborate with the social media team and senior management to create calendars and tools that help our organization on track! Outside of Green Dupatta, Sanya is dedicated to her studies at the University of Toronto and is pursuing a degree in Social Sciences.
“Tana Yussuff is a dedicated environmentalist with a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies and over a decade of experience spearheading conservation and community development efforts in Guyana. As the founder of Communitree, a dynamic consultancy in Guyana, Tana is committed to fostering sustainable livelihoods and empowering communities and creating change through education. Beyond her professional endeavours, Tana’s love for the great outdoors fuels her passion, with hiking and creek-side relaxation among her favourite pastimes.
