The skillset Nirmala utilizes to run events and coordinate projects is thanks to her diverse academic background and community involvement. Nirmala has attended the University of Toronto, York University and Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson). She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Arts in Anthropology and is currently completing a ‘Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Management Certificate.
When she is not on philanthropic trips, Nirmala works as an elementary school teacher in the Toronto District School Board. In addition to co-founding Green Dupatta, Nirmala was the 2015 Miss West Indian Canadian Queen, the 2016 Canadian Representative for the Divali Nagar Queen Show in Trinidad and Tobago and the 2021 Guyana Ambassador for Miss Face of Humanity 2021/2022.
Chandeni is currently a second-year law student at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law and completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Psychology at the University of Toronto. She uses her background as a law student and notary public to conduct research on our online platforms and philanthropic projects. Chandeni’s ability to efficiently organize, create, and schedule online campaigns is an integral piece of the GD Team! Chandeni is not only precise and organized, but she is creative as well! Outside of Green Dupatta, Chandeni was a professional Kathak dancer for 13 years and a Bollywood dancer for 15 years!
Neil utilizes his diverse skill set to coordinate and facilitate Green Dupatta fundraising events. Outside the organization, Neil thrives as a Licensed electrician with an immense passion for photography! During his downtime, you’ll often find Neil capturing moments through his lens or playing on a softball field with his team.
Being an Ontario Certified Teacher with both a Bachelor of Education and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English studies, Alexsis expertly uses her skills to oversee and manage our organization's online campaigns. Using the interpersonal skills she has built throughout her past volunteer work, Alexsis guides and trains team members in best communication practices with Green Dupatta’s collaborators, donors and volunteers to help build strong community relations.
As Green Dupatta’s Social Media Coordinator, Crystal plans and conceptualizes campaign posts for our social media platforms. She expertly collaborates with the rest of GD’s social media team to create interesting and interactive content for our following. Outside of the organization, Crystal is a Child and Youth worker (CYC) at Kinark Child and Family Services. She obtained her Child and Youth Worker Diploma from Sheridan College!
Sanya is Green Dupatta’s youngest member! In late October 2021, Sanya undertook the position of Administrative Assistant. She expertly uses her organizational skills to collaborate with the social media team and senior management to create calendars and tools that help our organization on track! Outside of Green Dupatta, Sanya is dedicated to her studies at the University of Toronto and is pursuing a degree in Social Sciences.
Tiffany Ramnarine is a Registered Social Service Worker and a Certified Career Development Practitioner. She works closely with people from diverse cultures, socio-economic backgrounds and possesses the ability to work from an anti-oppressive, strength based, and solution focused lens. Tiffany has supported hundreds of clients on their job search journey and through this process has created and maintained meaningful relationships throughout the social services community. Her commitment to community support is evident as Tiffany prepares for her Bachelors of Social and Community Development in September 2024. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys attending yoga classes, cooking and planning her next visit to Guyana!
Karishma Chowbay is a dedicated social media team member at Green Dupatta, combining her passion for social justice advocacy with a solid academic foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Health Humanities and Women and Gender Studies. With a background in medical administration, community advocacy, and performance, Karishma is currently pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Toronto. Outside of work, Karishma has been training in Bollywood and semi-classical dance since 2018, performing at various cultural and charity events and even touring with professional dance companies. She is also passionate about holistic health and exploring the therapeutic use of art and music, which she hopes to integrate into modern health practices.
