Project Objective
To construct a multipurpose facility dedicated to community programming. This 25x30 open-air structure was built using sustainable practices, focusing on natural materials to reduce environmental impact. The building will host a range of services designed to enhance community well-being, including regenerative farming projects, summer camps for children, free yoga and meditation sessions, and mental health workshops.
Background
In response to community needs for accessible wellness and educational programs, a new initiative was launched in Essequibo to support sustainable development and holistic well-being. This project, created in partnership with A Different View Project (ADVP), a Canadian nonprofit with roots in Guyana, aims to provide vital community services. ADVP, which manages a women’s retreat center in the region, acts as the community liaison and project manager, overseeing the land, building, and facilitation of programs. Together, GDCO and ADVP work to promote inclusive, sustainable community development through this collaborative effort.
